A young child awaits treatment at a clinic in the Guatemalan Changing lives:One face, one touch, one prayer at a timeA medical practice has excess medicines A hospital has a used but good incubator "What a shame, someone could use this." Parents have upgraded a daughter's wheelchair Another relief ministry has extra sutures A company has pallets of discontinued medical supplies "Where can we send these?" A physician has a burden to use his medical skills in needy countries "But where can I serve?" Imagine a pipeline in Tennessee receiving resources. The other end opening into Guatemala, distributing life-giving supplies, services and testimonies. This is Vine International. In 1989, Woody Woodson and his family moved to Guatemala to work in a children's home. So they thought. It was only a catalyst God used. Then Woody was introduced to medical mission clinics. He realized that mobile clinics were a platform for the Gospel. By meeting physical needs of their patients, these dedicated providers earned the right to be heard concerning deeper issues - the spiritual need for a true relationship with the Creator. But a common problem existed - resources. In response, Vine International, a non-profit Christian relief ministry was founded. No five-year plan, just one desire to be a fruitful branch abiding in the vine, Jesus Christ. The first trip began with a van load. Then it grew to a school bus convoy filled with medical aid driven through Mexico to Guatemala. Next came several containers shipped by ocean freight. Since the very first step, we at Vine are in awe of the resources supplied by God. We are amazed at the impact those supplies have had on the poor, but also those who serve the poor on a daily basis. We go to bless, but we receive the greatest blessing. Team members are never the same. Everyday people placed in God's hands discover why a branch is so dependent on the vine. The pipeline is simple, but the logistics are enormous. Latin America has few large medical end-users, but many small ones: hospitals, clinics, physicians, churches and missionaries. And as a result, Vine is in partnership with the Guatemalan nationals to build a distribution infrastructure to serve not only Guatemala but El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Belize and other parts of Mexico. From our warehouse in Tennessee, aid is collected and then shipped to our warehouse in Guatemala then distributed to those who touch the needy. |
